With utmost sadness, yet with gratitude to God for a remarkable life, the Ukegbu family of Amafor, Imerienwe, in the Ngor Okpala LGA of Imo State, Nigeria announce the passing of Dr. Basil Nnanna Ukegbu.
Odie, the nickname by which he was known in his hometown of Imerienwe, passed away March 6, 2017 in Emekuku, Owerri, at the age of 88. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothy Nwanyinna Ukegbu (nee Amuneke), and earlier this year by his second son, Dr. Kenneth Amanze Ukegbu. He is survived by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by an elder sister and numerous nephews and nieces, and members of his village, Amafor (all of whom are his cousins, all having descended from the same male ancestor, Nwokota).
The Ukegbu family, the Imerienwe people, the people of Ngor Okpala, the Old Students of Owerri Grammar School (OGS), TEDEM College and Dorothy College; the Old Boys of St. Patrick’s College, Calabar (his alma mater) are putting together a series of events in the US and Nigeria in connection with his funeral, details of which will shortly be announced.
